Roman Space Telescope Commemorative Patch

This Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope commemorative patch was designed by Tim Gagnon.

In the center is the SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket that will launch the Roman Space Telescope from NASA's Kennedy Space Center. The view of the universe is made up of squares. These squares are not random — they represent the telescope’s field of view and its survey capabilities. Each square in the grid symbolizes a single field of view that the telescope can image. 

The Roman Space Telescope’s Wide-Field Instrument (WFI) has a 0.28 square degree field of view, which is about 100 times larger than Hubble’s. In the logo, the squares visually convey how the telescope can rapidly scan vast swaths of the sky in a single snapshot, covering areas equivalent to many full moons in size. At the top is an illustration of the spacecraft.

This commemorative design is intended to celebrate all those who worked to make this mission possible.
